Biography

Brief Bio

I achieved my MLS with a concentration in Archives Management in May of 2013 from Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Upon graduation, I launched the archives at the Riverside Boat Club and implemented a plan for hiring a new archivist and continuing the Archives Project after my departure.

Prior to enter the graduate program at Simmons, I received my BA in English at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana in 2005, and spent the intervening six years between degree programs working as a graphic designer for a small invitation design studio in San Antonio, Texas.

I worked as the Digital Stewardship Certificate Facilitator at Simmons College and as a volunteer intern at the Joe Moakley Archive and Institute at Suffolk University where I processed a fascinating collection of over 550 audiovisual items all on obsolete or near-obsolete formats. I interned as at the Curation and Preservation Services Department at the MIT Libraries on a research data project in Spring of 2013.

Currently, I work as an Inventory Manager at BookPeople, Texas’s largest independent bookstore in Austin, Texas. I was hired as a bookseller one week after moving to Austin in 2013 and promoted less than a year later. I organize and maintain the inventory for the entire second floor of the bookstore. Main duties include title maintenance, discrepancy maintenance, merchandising, and training. Additional duties include graphic printing and design work for the marketing department and occasional author events support and coordination.

Area of Interest

I have a strong interest in digital preservation of large data sets and plans to use my education in the field to build and maintain trusted digital repositories as a responsible digital steward. I have classroom experience in creating policies for a digital repository that are consistent with a hypothetical university repository’s mission. This project can be found in my Competencies page.

I am also interested in outreach and using social media to reach large community groups. I keep semi-professional Twitter, Tumblr, and Instagram accounts on which I blog and reblog bookselling- library-, archives-, and data-related news.
